3 Steps to Simplify Your Custom Window Treatment Selection

Window treatments fulfill basic needs like light control and privacy while introducing design elements to your room, completing its look. Unsure about the distinction between luxury and functionality? Today, I'm sharing information to help you determine the difference and confidently order custom window treatments.

Step #1: Understand the Diverse Options

With many choices available, your first step is identifying your desired aesthetic or functionality. Do you want privacy while still desiring natural light? Ideal options include top-down/bottom-up shades, shutters, or café curtains. Need to control light in a bedroom? Opt for room-dimming shades or panels with blackout lining. I often help clients who know what they need but aren’t aware of the diverse options available.

Tired of living in a fishbowl? Top-Down, Bottom-Up shades are ideal for maintaining privacy while still letting in natural light.

Step #2: Complete the Look with Optional Add-Ons

While a shade might suffice, it can leave a room feeling incomplete. Valances or cornices are excellent for kitchens and baths, where panels may not always be practical. Stationary panels with shades are a budget-friendly option for large windows and can significantly enhance the room's ambiance. The ideal solution for complete light control includes a room-dimming shade paired with drapery panels and a valance or cornice.

The blinds in the kitchen look nice as they are and serve a function.

After:

The valance adds visual interest as well as drawing the eye up, making the room seem taller

Step #3: Select Stunning & Functional Finishes

After selecting one or two solutions to meet your needs, it's time to focus on the finishing touches. Decorative hardware and well-placed banding, cording, or other passementerie options can add a touch of beauty and bring a wow factor to the space. Selecting motorization for any treatment enhances child safety and simplifies the process of opening and closing multiple window treatments. Need help deciding?
