5 Tips for a Productive Window Treatment Consultation

After a discovery call, the next step in getting your project started on the right foot is the consultation.  During this important appointment, I'll be able to take measurements, you'll see fabric options in your home, and we'll discuss styles.  Keep reading to learn how to make the most of our time together.

Tip #1 - Begin with Goals in Mind

Knowing what you want (and don't want) and need is how to begin your project.  Knowing your goals for the space is a very important step in this process. Even if it's simply We want to soften the room, We need privacy, or We want lots of natural light- these are helpful, even if you don't know what the options are. Your goals give me a lot of information that will help me in achieving the look you want.

Tip #2 - Know Your Budget

Have a budget or range in mind before the consultation. I don't want to show you a beautiful design that you absolutely love and then burst your bubble because it's way out of your budget.  If you've never had custom treatments made or if it's been a very long time, budgeting can be difficult.  In our initial phone call or email, I can give you starting costs based on rough measurements and photos of your room.

Tip #3 - Prepare Your Space

Decluttering before the appointment will allow me to see the space properly.  With no visual distractions, I'll be able to offer the best suggestions for cohesive designs.  Although it's necessary to have items moved away from the windows for installation, the room should have all furnishings in place that will be used in the final design.  It is also important to know if you will be removing or adding a large cabinet or other significant items.

Tip #4 - Understand Your Style Preference

Are you leaning towards full drapery panels or Roman shades?  Do you prefer simple, yet tailored? Love florals, or French Country? GREAT! Knowing your aesthetic preferences before our meeting will help me make suggestions that fit your style and help with your decision making.

Tip #5 - Be Ready to Participate

I encourage you to come with no distractions and an open mind.  Do you need to confer with your spouse or best friend to make a decision? I completely understand and encourage them to be present at the consultation so that I can address any concerns or answer questions.  This will lead to a more efficient consultation.
